the Expertise Group
Wind Sand & Stars is proud to be part of Wilderness Expertise. Wilderness Expertise Ltd incorporates two other brands that offer high quality experiences for school groups that develop an awareness of our world, its people and cultures, and ourselves;
Wilderness Expertise specialises in providing overseas personal development expeditions for students aged 12 to 18. The expeditions help those involved realise their potential in a safe, supportive and exhilarating environment. They have an excellent reputation and are committed to staying small – only working with a maximum of 30 teams per year, allowing them to retain strong links with all the schools they work with and provide the highest quality experience from start to finish. Above all, the WE team are passionate about what they do and this enthusiasm is catching!
Inspire Worldwide specialises in setting up school links, providing the opportunity to support and take part in hands-on, sustainable, community development projects. The projects are perfectly suited to schools who want to offer their students something different and want them to develop cultural understanding, global awareness and make a sustainable and long-term impact. Inspire offers you the chance to develop a long-term partnership between your school and one of our pre-vetted partner charities, or to develop an existing link you might already hold.
Using experienced and professional staff, these teams provide unique and tailored services to support ventures in diverse operating environments. What makes them special is the commitment to quality and deep expertise in their fields.
Wilderness Expertise, Inspire Worldwide and Wind Sand & Stars are also supported by and work alongside colleagues who deliver excellence in safe operations in the outdoors:
Training Expertise specialises in providing training for individuals and groups who work in outdoor or remote environments. Courses include First Aid, Incident Management, Off-site Safety Management, Driver training and Risk Assessment training.
Sentinel Consulting provides a wide variety of services to their clients. The common thread is that all of their clients operate in remote or wilderness environments – desert, jungle, arctic, mountain, steppe or ocean.
The Saint Catherine Foundation is a charity that was established to support conservation work at Saint Catherine’s Monastery. It has offices in London and and associated organisations in New York and Geneva.
The South Sinai Foundation is a charity comprised of British, Egyptian and Bedouin collaborators and residents of St Katherine in Sinai, that works toward the sustainable development of Bedouin communities across the peninsula of South Sinai. They provide much-needed support and can accept donations on their justgiving site.

“So many thoughts about our wonderful trip to St Catherine; the fantastic warmth of welcome from the Egyptians, Fathers Justin and Nilus, and the unique history which we felt privileged to be given access to. In my book, how could one not enjoy and be inspired!”
Julia Palmer, St Catherine Retreat, February 2017
“A great experience altogether and I am grateful to all the organisers, to the guides and drivers, to all the staff at guesthouse and hotels, to the Bedouin we visited; all contributed to a perfect trip. “
Verena Watson, Tailor Made Desert Journey, April 2016
“Huge thanks to all at Wind, Sand & Stars for an amazing trip. John’s passion for Ethiopia fires his erudition and he gave us more insights into the country, past and present, than we could ever have gained from local guides.”
Christine Dunmow, Exploring Ethiopia’s Orthodox History with John Binns 2016
“I am hugely impressed with Wind Sand & Stars’ organisation and their relationship with the Bedouin family who looked after us. These local contacts made the experience especially rich.”
