Journeys - For CharitiesTreks and Projects Our Charity Projects are the first of their kind and a result of our many years of working in Sinai, Egypt, with the local Bedouin. An inspirational idea to allow people the opportunity to raise money for a UK charity and then work with the semi nomadic Bedouin on a local community based project in the Sinai. It isn’t all work though and participants also get to experience the beauty of this desert land and relax for a night on the Red Sea. Of course if you want something a little more traditional we also organise 100km charity treks with the Bedouin through the desert to Mount Sinai!
Having worked closely with PHAB, RNID, GDBA, Imperial Cancer Research, ME and others, we have an excellent understanding of what is involved in organising journeys for the physically challenged. We believe that with a few small adjustments, almost anyone can experience the wonder of travelling in Sinai. It all began with a BSL interpreted journey because 8% of the Bedouin community are born profoundly deaf and were keen to link with our own deaf and hearing impaired customers. The Bedouin are happy to go that extra mile if it means they can introduce people to their life and land. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!
Marathons When the UK Army Chaplains approached Wind, Sand & Stars and asked for our expertise to help them organise their millennium marathon in Sinai, Egypt, we agreed with the condition that we did not have to run with them! Twenty-five Army Chaplains rose to the challenge and ran 10 miles each day (a total of 2000 miles) through the desert in order to raise money for the Army Charity SAFA and for a children’s hospital in the Near East. Our close friends and contacts among the local Bedouin helped us organise the route and supported us throughout the run, although they opted to travel in the traditional desert manner, on the backs of their camels. If you want to bring marathon runners to the desert, let us know!
